A Guide to the Best Wine Tours in Margaret River

I’ve spent enough time behind the wheel and at the cellar door, to know which tours and experiences genuinely stand out.

Whether you’re chasing premium tastings, a relaxed day with friends or something slow and soulful, this is your guide to the best wine tours in the Margaret River region including the one I know best.

1. The Journey Margaret River

If you prefer private tours tailored around you this is your ride. Think good vibes, local knowledge and a relaxed pace where the day unfolds naturally rather than following a rigid schedule.

We visit boutique wineries, local producers and hidden gems, all at your comfort level. You won’t find big buses or rushed tastings here, just a day that feels personal, genuine and full of stories.

Whether you want to deep dive into Chardonnay, pair Cabernet with chocolate or discover vineyards most visitors never find, this is your chance to explore the region like a local.

Yes, this one’s us. And yes, it’s as good as it sounds.

2. Vasse Felix

As Margaret River’s first winery, Vasse Felix deserves its reputation. Their guided tastings and behind the scenes tours are structured yet intimate, you’ll learn how the region was founded and taste your way through a flight that showcases their signature elegance.

Don’t skip the restaurant. The multi course wine paired lunch here is one of the region’s finest experiences.

3. Mr Barval Fine Wines

Mr Barval is the kind of winery that feels like you’ve stumbled upon something special. Small-batch, handcrafted and run by people who clearly love what they do. Their private tastings are personal and often hosted by the winemaker himself.
It’s all about conversation, craftsmanship and a deep respect for the land,  an ideal stop for those who appreciate subtle, European-inspired wines made with care. The private behind the scenes tasting has it all. It is only available at 10:00am. Just let us know if this is something you want to include in your itinerary and we can take care of the bookings.

4. Leeuwin Estate

A visit to Leeuwin is part wine tour, part cultural experience. Famous for its Art Series Chardonnay, the winery also runs guided tours that weave art, architecture and viticulture into one story.

If you have time, stay for lunch, the restaurant overlooks manicured gardens and is consistently among the best in Australia.

5. Cape Mentelle

For those who like a bit of adventure with their wine, Cape Mentelle offers one of the most immersive cellar experiences around. Their behind the scenes tours take you through the vineyards, barrel halls and blending rooms and often finish with a seated tasting among the barrels.

If you visit in summer, their outdoor movie nights are a Margaret River institution, perfect for an evening under the stars with a glass of Cabernet in hand.

The Joy of the Journey

Margaret River isn’t about racing between wineries, it’s about slowing down, tasting with intention and connecting with the people behind the wines.

There’s no wrong way to experience the region, but there is a right pace and that’s what makes a private wine tour special.

When you’re ready to see why I claim the top spot (with only a hint of bias), let’s plan your perfect day in wine country.
