The Journey Margaret River

Margaret River Wine Tour FAQ

Common questions about our private wine tours and driver service in the Margaret River region.

  • Every tour is private to your group and built around what you enjoy. There is no set itinerary and no fixed route. You choose the wineries, the pace, the lunch and the start time, and we take care of the planning, the bookings and the driving. We host one group at a time, up to a maximum of seven guests.

  • Your guide is Mo, who owns and runs The Journey Margaret River. He trained as a chef in England and France, managed a Margaret River cellar door for three years and has lived in the region for more than a decade. You can read more on our About page.

  • Usually five to seven on a full day, and three to four on a half day. It depends on how long you like to spend at each and the kind of day you are after. The number is yours to set.

  • Yes. Every tour is fully customised, so we shape the day and the cellar doors around your taste rather than following a set list. If there are particular wineries you already know you would like to visit, we build the day around them.

  • Tours are private and priced per tour rather than per person, so the cost depends on your group, pick up location and the day. Get in touch with your dates and group size and we will reply with a quote asap.

  • The price covers all transport, the planning and the winery bookings. Tastings, food and any purchases are paid directly at each venue, which keeps you in control of what you spend.

  • Up to seven, with six the number we recommend for comfort. The tour is private to your group, so you are never joined by other guests.

  • We collect you from your door and bring you home at the end of the day. We pick up across Margaret River, Dunsborough, Busselton, Yallingup, Augusta and the surrounding area. If you are coming from Perth we also offer private transfers down to the region.

  • A full day usually runs from around 10am to 5pm, about six and a half to seven hours door to door, including a stop for lunch. A half day is about three and a half hours. We can adjust the timing to suit your group.

  • Four to six weeks is a good guide, and earlier for weekends and the busy season from January to April. We do take last minute bookings when we have availability, so it is always worth asking.

  • Get in touch through the contact page, by phone, WhatsApp or email and we will confirm availability and send a quote. A 20% deposit secures your date, with the balance paid on the day by card or bank transfer.

  • Yes. A half day runs about three and a half hours and takes in three to four wineries without a lunch stop. It suits a relaxed afternoon or a shorter visit.

  • Yes. We welcome families and guests of all ages, and there are plenty of non-alcoholic options along the way. If wine is not the focus at all, we also run private sightseeing tours of the forest, coast and scenery.

  • Yes. As well as wine tours we run a private driver service for dinners, airport transfers, events, Cape to Cape walkers and multi day bookings. You plan where you are going and we take care of the driving.

  • Yes. Gift vouchers are available on request, either for a particular tour or as a set amount. They are valid for 36 months from purchase and can be put towards any of our tours, subject to availability. Get in touch and we will arrange one for you.

  • The 20% deposit secures your booking and is non-refundable. If you cancel more than 14 days before your tour, you may be eligible for a credit towards a future booking at our discretion. Cancellations within 14 days are not eligible for a credit or refund. The balance is only paid on the day, so there is nothing further to settle if you cancel beforehand. In the rare event that we have to cancel, for example due to illness, a vehicle issue or severe weather, you receive a full refund or the option to reschedule. Full terms are on our Terms and Conditions page.

  • Yes. We are a Quality Tourism, Sustainable Tourism and EcoStar accredited business, authorised by the WA Department of Transport, and we carry public liability and commercial passenger transport insurance. We also hold current RSA and Approved Manager certification and a WA Police Clearance.
