If you don’t drink alcohol or you simply want a day of exploring nature, history and coastal beauty. Our private Margaret River sightseeing tour is the perfect way to discover what makes this region so special.

At The Journey Margaret River, we offer fully personalised tours for couples, families and small groups. We create your itinerary around the things you enjoy most, no wine tasting required.

Step into Margaret River’s Underground Cave World

The region is home to a network of impressive limestone caves, each formed over millions of years. With different levels of accessibility and adventure, there's something for everyone.

Lake Cave features a glass-like lake and dramatic formations, entered through a staircase surrounded by karri trees.

Mammoth Cave offers a gentle self-guided experience with audio commentary and fascinating fossil history.

Giants Cave is ideal for the adventurous, with climbing and crawling through larger-than-life chambers.

These caves give a unique insight into the geological timeline of the region and offer a memorable, cool escape — especially during the warmer months.

Ride the Busselton Jetty Train and Visit the Underwater Observatory

Busselton Jetty

A favourite on many of our sightseeing itineraries, the Busselton Jetty extends nearly two kilometres into the ocean. You can walk the full length or hop aboard a charming train that winds its way out over the bay.

At the end of the jetty, the Underwater Observatory allows visitors to descend into the depths of Geographe Bay and view a thriving marine environment through large viewing panels. The experience offers a unique window into life beneath the waves — perfect for nature lovers, kids, and curious travellers alike.

Both sites are steeped in coastal heritage and provide a unique perspective on the region’s connection to the sea.

Spot Wild Kangaroos in Their Natural Habitat

No trip to regional Australia feels complete without seeing a kangaroo and in Margaret River, there’s a good chance you’ll spot them in the wild, especially in the early morning or late afternoon.

While kangaroos can occasionally be seen near vineyards or even grazing on roadside paddocks, we know a few quiet locations where they often gather in small groups. Seeing them up close in their natural environment, not in a zoo or wildlife park is a special part of the local experience.

They’re most active during the cooler parts of the day, so we can time your tour to maximise the chance of a sighting. It's a great opportunity for photography and one of those authentic, uniquely Australian moments that guests always remember.

Whether you’re visiting from overseas or just enjoy nature, spotting kangaroos is a lovely addition to your day out in Margaret River.

Watch Whales Along the Coast

margaret river sightseeing tour

From June to November the Margaret River coastline becomes one of the best places in Australia to witness the annual whale migration. Thousands of Humpback, Southern Right and Blue whales pass close to shore as they journey between Antarctica and the warmer breeding grounds of the north.

There are several spectacular vantage points where you can often see whales breaching, tail-slapping, or cruising along the surface:

  • Cape Naturaliste offers elevated views over Geographe Bay and is one of the most reliable spots to see whales from land.

  • Gracetown and Conto’s Cliffs are also local favourites for spotting these giants of the ocean.

  • For those who want to get even closer, boat tours depart from Dunsborough and Augusta during the migration season.

If you're visiting during whale season, we’ll happily build a scenic route that includes one or more viewing spots or help you add a boat tour to your itinerary. It's a truly unforgettable way to connect with the wild beauty of the South West.
